More than 200 people rolled up their sleeves on Saturday, March 4 and joined in our fifth Clean Streets Matter Community-wide Cleanup. It took place in at least 10 different locations across the county with multiple organizations and agencies.

“I want to personally thank all our neighbors who stepped up and I also want to thank Macon-Bibb Communications , Parks & Beautification, Parks & Recreation, Solid Waste, and Public Works,” said Keep Macon-Bibb Beautiful (KMBB) Executive Director Asha Ellen. “Your partnership and commitment to improving the quality of life in Macon-Bibb County is greatly appreciated.”

Mayor Lester Miller and Commissioner Bill Howell also drove around the County, picking up signs placed illegally placed along roads and in its intersections. In the weeks leading up to the cleanup, the Parks & Beautification Department, Macon-Bibb County Industrial Authority, and the Georgia Department of Transportation had crews cleaning up major thorough fares and intersections. Commissioners Paul Bronson and Virgil Watkins helped with cleanups around Memorial Gym.

“The more people see us come together to clean our streets, the more they will organize their own cleanups throughout the year, and the more we can do in other areas,” said Mayor Lester Miller. “Clean streets matter because Macon matters.”

If you’d like to hold your own cleanup at your own time, contact KMBB at asha.ellen@kmbbc.org for equipment including gloves, litter pickers, vests, and trash bags. Click here to see pictures from the cleanup!
