The first Mayor’s Council of Clergy (MCC) luncheon of 2023 was held Thursday, February 9, at the Tubman African-American museum. Nearly 100 people representing various faiths and religions attended the event which featured prayer, community updates, calls to action, and a catered lunch from Charles Murphy’s Catering.
“This luncheon is a call for racial and economic justice in our community,” says Dr. Henry Ficklin, Executive Director of Community Affairs. “We know if we can get our ministers to associate the two, and take that message back to their congregations, we get closer to the vision of a true beloved community.”
Pastors, Reverends, and other leaders spoke about their congregations and the community at large, calling for unity among one another as a way to curb crime and heal those who are hurting. Mayor Lester Miller gave remarks as well and spoke about the importance of clergy members working together with the County. He also gave an update on current and upcoming projects.
The Council typically meets every other month to give our local faith leaders an opportunity to discuss issues facing their congregants and the community at large. They also have the chance to talk with other ministers and organizations aimed at promoting peace and justicein our community. Click here to see a photo album from the February 10 luncheon.
