Commission approves closing alleyway to start DT Walton project

On Tuesday, August 6, Commissioners agreed to close an unnamed right-of-way that runs through the City Hall parking lot.

Closing this section, will allow that section to be used by the public once the DT Walton project gets started. The plan is to develop 140 loft units and a parking deck for people heading Downton Macon and County employees.

“We’re taking existing government property and making it into something that will benefit the public,” says Director of Planning and Public Spaces and Urban Development Authority (UDA) Executive Director Alex Morrison. “This project is part of the Macon Action Plan’s goal of creating new life in Downtown Macon and taking underutilized space and making it something more important.”

The UDA is finalizing an agreement for this project by the end of this month, a plan for a groundbreaking in six months, and hopefully start seeing people moving into the lofts by early 2027.
