Community encourage to hold neighborhood cleanups April 10

So far, more than 40 neighborhoods, businesses, organizations, and schools – have signed up to be a part of the Clean Streets Matter community-wide cleanup on Saturday, April 10, and dozens of other people have called asking if they could just join in one already scheduled. This will be a day for every area of our county to come together and show the community and state that Macon-Bibb County values the cleanliness of its streets and neighborhoods.

“Clean streets matter because Macon matters, and I’m proud of the work of our departmental crews the past few weeks, the outpouring of community support for their work, and for people wanting to join in to help. This week, our crews surpassed two million pounds picked up from illegal dump sites,” says Macon-Bibb Mayor Lester Miller. “I’m challenging every neighborhood…every church…every school…every business…to get involved and make our community the clean place to live that we deserve.”

“We want this to be the biggest county-wide cleanup our community has ever had, and the response has been so overwhelmingly positive that I think we can do it,” says Keep Macon-Bibb Beautiful Director Caroline Childs. “Macon-Bibb’s crews have been amazing in what they’ve done, so we need to show them how much WE care by lending a hand and keeping our streets clean.”

If you do not have an area picked out to clean, KMBB will help you or your group join with another neighborhood. Individuals and teams will be provided with resources needed such as grabbers, buckets, vests, gloves, trash bags or dumpsters to ensure a successful cleanup. KMBB will partner with Macon-Bibb and Waste Management to collect trash and measure the impact you make your neighborhood.
