UPDATE on Saturday, May 29, 2021:

The swimming area in Lake Tobesofkee’s Claystone Park is now open until 7pm today (Saturday, May 29) after the MWA’s sample tests showed the bacteria levels had dropped back down again. It was previously closed due to an elevated E. Coli test from the Macon Water Authority. Both Claystone & Arrowhead will be open 7am-7pm Sunday.

Release sent Friday, May 28, 2021:

The swimming area at Lake Tobesofkee’s Claystone Beach is closed on Saturday, May 29 after a routine test by the MWA showed an unacceptable level of E.Coli bacteria. Macon Water Authority testing shows the bacteria at a level of 472 pets per 100mL of water. The elevated level, according to the MWA, is potentially due to geese and other birds and wildlife.

There have been other closures in previous years in 2015, 2016, and 2019. Lake Tobesofkee sent another sample to the MWA lab and those results should be returned Saturday afternoon, so staff can make a determination about Sunday and Monday then.

The testing results at Lake Arrowhead were okay, and Sandy Beach is already closed for construction.
