Macon-Bibb County is proud to celebrate National Emergency Management Awareness Month. Throughout the month of August emergency managers will conduct a coordinated, industry-wide awareness and advocacy campaign to promote the capabilities of emergency management and the role of emergency managers.

“We want to make sure our neighbors understand what emergency management is, how can we help you and you help us during critical times,” says EMA Director Spencer Hawkins. “Our job is to make sure our communities are prepared for disasters. These are things that overwhelm our communities, like hurricanes, tornadoes, and massive flooding.”

This inaugural month-long celebration, which stems from the International Association of Emergency Managers, aims to promote the field of emergency management to leaders across all sectors. By engaging and educating decision-makers and chief executives, National Emergency Management Awareness Month will help to build a deeper understanding of the profession and highlight the critical role emergency managers play in safeguarding communities and organizations. National Emergency Management Awareness Month is a coordinated, industry-wide campaign designed to promote the capabilities of emergency management and highlight the contributions of emergency managers.

Our Emergency Management Agency (EMA) team will be providing helpful information and tools to keep our community safe. Our EMA team is working on teaching you all about the Emergency Support Functions (ESF) through a social media countdown. You can follow EMA on Facebook, X, and Instagram, for posts and updates. Stay tuned for upcoming EMA events throughout the month of August, including another weather radio giveaway.
