Macon-Bibb County is celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month, observed nationally from September 15 through October 15, honoring the histories, cultures, and contributions of Americans whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean, and Central and South America.

In Macon-Bibb, Hispanic residents make up approximately 4% of the county’s population and play a vital role in shaping the community’s success through their contributions in education, business, the arts, healthcare, and public service.

This year’s theme — “Collective Heritage: Honoring the Past, Inspiring the Future” — highlights the continued impact of Hispanic Americans who have helped build stronger, more inclusive communities across the nation and right here at home.

“Our community is strengthened by the diversity of our people,” said Mayor Miller. “Hispanic Heritage Month is a time to honor those who continue to inspire and contribute to Macon-Bibb’s shared success.”

Mayor Lester Miller signed a proclamation recognizing the month and commending the efforts of the Office of Small Business Affairs for its ongoing commitment to supporting Hispanic-owned businesses. Through outreach, capacity-building, and inclusion in local procurement efforts, the office ensures equitable opportunities for all entrepreneurs to grow and succeed in Macon-Bibb.

Residents are encouraged to take part in local celebrations, cultural events, and educational opportunities that highlight the rich traditions and enduring influence of Hispanic heritage.
