On Wednesday, June 1 Mayor Lester Miller presented a proclamation to Atrium Health Peyton Anderson Center to celebrate National Cancer Survivors Day in Macon-Bibb County. The day is celebrated nationally on June 5.

There are more than 16.9 million cancer survivors in America, and the goal of National Cancer Survivors Day is to unite the community to recognize cancer survivors, raise awareness of the ongoing challenges survivors face because of their disease, and celebrate life.

Macon-Bibb County has a valuable, dynamic cancer survivor population. Through early detection in the form of mammograms and regular screenings, an important opportunity exists to unite the citizens of central Georgia to prevent cancer deaths.
