Mayor Lester Miller proclaimed August as Breastfeeding Month in Macon-Bibb alongside Atrium Health Navicent this week. You can read the full proclamation here.

The aim of National Breastfeeding Month is to raise community awareness about the benefits of breastfeeding and encourage support for breastfeeding mothers. According to the CDC, in Georgia, 82 percent of mothers initiate breastfeeding, but only 33 percent continue to breastfeed for 12 months.

Through support and awareness about the importance of breastfeeding, as well as help available for mothers who are struggling to breastfeed, an important opportunity exists to improve the health of mothers and their babies.
