Gloves up! It’s time for the 8th Anniversary Boxing Show at Freedom Park.
Dozens of boxers from across the country, including many locals, will be competing in the ring for the top belts. It all kicks off at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 24, at the Macon-Bibb United Freedom Park Boxing Gym (3301 Roff Avenue). Tickets to attend are $20 per person, and children five and under get in for free.
“I’ve had phone calls from New York, Ohio, Florida, all over Georgia…from people wanting to compete. We’re still putting the matches together, but this show is going to be something special,” says Boxing Gym Supervisor James Hand, showing off his pride in having so many people come here to compete and see what Macon-Bibb has to offer.
But he’s most proud of the local athletes that train here and are able to compete around the Southeast and across the country, and the coaches that got them there.
“We’ve got such tremendous talent here, even in the youngest competitors. I want to thank all our coaches for their hard work,” he says. “I may provide encouragement and hope, but the coaches are out there putting in the physical work to get these young athletes ready. We just keep winning, and we’re not stopping anytime soon!”
