The Frank Johnson Recreation Center is celebrating Black History Month with a free family fun night. It’s happening from 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. on Friday, February 17, at the center (2227 Mercer University Drive.)
As part of the event, there will be games, a literacy lab, refreshments, music trivia for the grownups, and entertainment. Children are encouraged to dress like their favorite Black History Hero for the chance to win a prize.
Center Director Clarence Thomas says this night is not only about celebrating the achievements and contributions of African-Americans throughout history, but also about fun and family connection.
“We’re partnering with the Mahogany Principle Group for this interactive and educational event,” says Thomas. “We hope to use the platform to promote unity in the community through literacy, education about our Black History heroes, creativity, and family conversations throughout the evening.”
