Macon-Bibb County will celebrate the Grand Opening of its newest public safety facility, the Bert Bivins Fire Station and Sheriff Precinct ( 4036 Napier Avenue ) with a ribbon cutting & dedication ceremony on Friday, December 21 at 9:30 a.m.  The new facility is named for District 5 Commissioner and long-time community leader Bert Bivins, III.
Parking for the event will be at Glorious Hope Baptist Church (3805 Napier Avenue). The Fire Department is running a shuttle between there and the new facility.
The facility replaced the Breezy Hill fire station on Forsyth Street and the sheriff’s precinct at 600 Pio Nono Avenue. Its construction was funded by the voter-approved Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST). It was designed by BTBB, Inc., and was built by Warren Associates.

This past year, several structures around the building were demolished to provide more space for the station and then to remove blight along the streets in the area. The demolitions were being paid for with funds from the Blight Remediation Program.

“This is another milestone in how our government is working to improve public safety and remove blight from our neighborhoods,” says Mayor Pro Tem and District 9 Commissioner Al Tillman, who represents this area of Macon-Bibb. “With the SPLOST funds, our Blight Remediation Program, and the cooperation of our Fire Department and Sheriff’s Office, we are better able to help our residents.”
