On Thursday, February 17, Keep Macon-Bibb Beautiful and Parks & Beautification held their annual tree planting event at Carolyn Crayton Park in observance of Arbor Day.
This year, they planted two Helen Taft Cherry Trees, which are a hybrid of the Yoshino Cherry Trees we often see here in Macon, the Taiwan Cherry Trees. They are a stronger version more acclimated to our climate and soil here in Middle Georgia.
“I urge all citizens to support and celebrate Arbor Day and take part in the efforts to support and care for our trees,” said Mayor Lester Miller. “I urge all of our citizens to plant trees, to gladden the heart and promote the well-being of this and future generations.”
Although Arbor Day isn’t until the end of April, crews wanted to get a head start on planting these trees now because this is the best time of year to plant trees so they can flourish in our community.
