As part of National Police Week, the Macon-Bibb County Law Enforcement Foundation, Sheriff’s Office, and Fire Department will host the annual Peace Officer’s Memorial Day program on Friday, May 14, 2021 beginning at 8:30 a.m. The event will be held in Public Safety Memorial Park at the corner of Second and Mulberry Streets.“We must never forget the men and women who gave their all in protecting the safety of our community, and this ceremony is but one gesture by which we can memorialize their service and remind their friends and family how much they mean to us,” says Warren Selby, Chair of the Law Enforcement Foundation.
“There is no amount of thanks, no number of ceremonies, no words that can fully do justice to the sacrifice made by the men and women who protect our community; it’s something that is ongoing and continuous, something we must do every day,” says Mayor Lester Miller. “This annual ceremony is but one way…a very important way…to make sure our community remembers and thanks these heroes.”
During the Ceremony, all the names of our Public Safety Officers who lost their lives in the Line of Duty will be read, and the Honor Guard will place a rose at the base of the monument for each name read. Sadly, the event will recognize Deputy Kenterrous D. Taylor of the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office, whose name has been added to the Memorial.
