It’s that time of year again where we celebrate being the first community in the nation to be designated by AARP and the World Health Organization as an Age-Friendly City. The celebration will take place on Wednesday, May 6, at the Macon Mall (3661 Eisenhower Pkwy) on the lower level from 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.

“We’re excited to celebrate 14 years of Macon being recognized as the nation’s first age-friendly community,” said Co-Chair of the Macon-Bibb County Age Friendly Council, Greg Brown. “This is a great opportunity to come together, have fun, and highlight the many resources available to people in our community.”

The event is free and open to everyone. Refreshments will be provided, and there will be a variety of vendors offering information and helpful tools. Mayor Lester Miller is set to speak about the work being done in Macon-Bibb County, along with AARP representatives.

“Being age-friendly means celebrating people of all ages, races, and cultures as we continue working to strengthen the eight domains of livability,” said fellow Co-Chair Karen Middleton. “It’s about creating a community where everyone feels supported, connected, and able to thrive at every stage of life.”
