Macon-Bibb County joined communities across Georgia in recognizing September as National Recovery Month, celebrating the people who are living in recovery and the organizations working every day to support them.

On Friday, September 25, Mayor Lester Miller presented a proclamation at Rosa Parks Square, recognizing the importance of behavioral health, addiction treatment, prevention, and recovery support services in our community.

The proclamation was presented as the 2026 Georgia Recovers in Communities bus tour made its way through Macon-Bibb. This year’s tour carries the message “Recovery is Real,” reminding people that recovery happens every day and no one has to go through the journey alone.

“Recovery Month is an opportunity for us to celebrate the people who have worked hard to change their lives and to remind anyone who may be struggling that there are people and organizations ready to help them,” said Mayor Miller. “Recovery is possible, and as a community, we need to continue supporting people wherever they may be on that journey.”

As part of the statewide effort, the Georgia Recovers in Communities bus tour is delivering 100 Overdose Aid Kits to communities throughout Georgia, making lifesaving resources more accessible in local government buildings.

The proclamation also recognizes the importance of education in reducing the stigma and discrimination often experienced by people living with addiction or in recovery. Prevention works, treatment is effective, and millions of people across the country are living in long-term recovery.

Organizations supporting National Recovery Month include the Georgia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities, Georgia Council for Recovery, Macon Recovers, River Edge Behavioral Health, Serve You Rx, and the Georgia General Assembly Working Group on Addiction and Recovery.
