When a traffic signal stops working, most people notice the inconvenience. For Shane Folendore, it’s a call to action.
As a Traffic Signal Inspector and Technician with Macon-Bibb County’s Facilities Management Department, Shane helps keep hundreds of traffic signals, caution lights, and school zone lights operating safely and efficiently throughout the community. Whether a signal is damaged during a storm, involved in a crash, or simply experiences a malfunction, Shane is often one of the first people called to respond.
His work takes him across Macon-Bibb, troubleshooting issues, completing work orders, and making sure drivers, pedestrians, and students can travel safely.
Before joining the County, Shane worked as an electrician in the military, where he discovered an interest in the technical side of the profession. Today, that experience helps him solve problems and keep critical infrastructure running.
“I like the traffic signal division because it’s unique and not something you see on a regular basis,” said Shane. “Just being able to come out and troubleshoot something and be able to make that work and you’re doing that on your own.”
Through the On Call video series, residents get a behind-the-scenes look at the employees who provide essential services every day. Shane’s episode highlights the important role traffic signal technicians play in keeping Macon-Bibb moving safely.
