The Macon-Bibb County Recreation Department is proud to host a special birthday celebration honoring one of Macon’s most legendary musical icons, Little Richard. The event will take place at the Little Richard House & Resource Center (416 Craft Street) on December 5, what would have been his 93rd birthday.
People can drop in at any time between 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at 416 Craft Street, for guided tours and an indoor viewing of documentary Rock & Relocate: The Story of Little Richard’s Childhood Home. Cake and refreshments will be provided, with the cake cutting taking place at 6:00 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.
“Little Richard changed music forever, and this home tells an important part of that story. Our goal is to preserve that legacy and share it with current and future generations,” said organizer and Recreation Programmer Chris Austin. “We are so excited to celebrate him and his legacy, and hope the community joins us.”
The house, which was relocated nearly a decade ago from 5th Street to Craft Street, is now a resource center featuring exhibits about Little Richard’s life, music, and lasting influence.
Originally planned live music and an outdoor documentary showing have been adjusted due to anticipated rain. While there will be no live music or outdoor screenings, the celebration will go on indoors with a meaningful and memorable experience for all attendees. The outdoor portion will be rescheduled at a later date that has not been determined yet.
If you cannot make it to the celebration, you can visit the Little Richard House and Resource Center Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.
