On Tuesday, October 7, the Macon-Bibb County Fire Department held its Annual Fire Prevention Week Opening Ceremony at the Macon Mall. This year’s theme is “CHARGE into Fire Safety – Lithium-Ion Batteries in Your Home”

During the event, the Fire Department honored 16 students from both public and private schools in the Macon-Bibb County School System, as recipients of our Louise Poe Fire Safety Essay and Poster Contest. The winners are listed below. Students received certificates and cash prizes, and two outstanding 12th grade seniors earned college scholarships for their exceptional work promoting fire safety.

“This event is a celebration not only of fire safety awareness, but also of the creativity and dedication of our community’s youth,” says Fire & Life Safety Educator Lt. Jeremy Webb. “We are so proud of these students for their knowledge when it comes to fire safety.”
