Mayor recognizes Brigadier General Kelvin and Colonel Maria McElroy

On Monday, September 15, County Manager Dr. Keith Moffett presented a proclamation on behalf of Mayor Lester Miller to Brigadier General Kelvin D. McElroy and Colonel Maria N. McElroy on their retirement from the United States Air Force.

Kelvin D. McElroy was born July 16, 1969, a 1988 graduate of Northeast High School and began his Military service in the United States Army on June 4. 1994, he met and married Maria Nichole who was born April 29, 1970, she is a 1987 graduate of Skyline High School in Oakland, California and she began her Military service on July 28, 1987.

Colonel Maria N. McElroy was commissioned in 1991 through ROTC at Grambling State University and served 12 years on active duty as a Program Manager for major defense communication and engineering projects. She later served as IMA to the Director of Manpower, Personnel, and Services for U.S. Air Forces in Europe and Africa, overseeing support programs for military members, civilians, partner nations, families, and retirees. Brigadier General Kelvin D. McElroy commanded the Air Force Reserve Command at Robins Air Force Base, responsible for generating Reserve Forces to meet global operational needs.

Brigadier General and Colonel McElroy served our country with valor and tenacity and as of August 1, 2025, retired from the United States Air Force with 69 years of service between the two of them.

August 1, 2025, is now known as Brigadier General Kelvin and Colonel Maria McElroy Retirement Day in Macon-Bibb County. You can read the full proclamation here.
