The block of Second Street between Cherry and Poplar Streets reopened to vehicular traffic on Monday, December 1 after a short event with comments from Macon-Bibb County Mayor Robert Reichert, Commissioners, SPLOST Advisory Committee Chair Jeffery Monroe, and representatives from TY Lin International and Chris R. Sheridan & Co.

This portion of the Second Street Corridor project was funded by the voter approved Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax and added bike lanes, reverse angle parking (see diagram below on how to use this parking), landscaping, shade trees, benches, improved sidewalks, an irrigation system, and more. TY Lin International created the design for the Vision Block, and Chris R. Sheridan & Co. was the contractor on this project. In addition to the work being completed with SPLOST funds, Georgia Power, Atlanta Gas Light, and the Macon Water Authority used this opportunity to upgrade and improve its electrical system to meet the growth taking place Downtown.

Macon-Bibb County is currently planning for the creation of Mid-City Square, a new park to be located at the intersection of Second and Pine Streets. TY Lin is currently working on the design of the bridge that will connect Second Street with Little Richard Penniman Boulevard.
