October is known as SIDS Awareness and Prevention Month throughout the nation, as well as in Macon-Bibb after Mayor Lester Miller presented a proclamation declaring it.

Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) is the sudden unexplained death of an infant after sufficient studies have been conducted to find a cause to explain the death, including an autopsy. These deaths often occur during sleep or in the baby’s sleep area. The aim of National SIDS Awareness Month is to inform Americans that they may be able to save infant lives by knowing how to prevent SIDS and decrease its risk.
