On May 12, 2023 dozens of people gathered in Public Safety Memorial Park to honor the 34 fallen officers during the annual Peace Officers Memorial program. You can watch the full program here.

“These individuals whose names call made the ultimate sacrifice to protect our community and to ensure our safety,” said Colonel Henderson Carswell. “As we reflect their sacrifice, we must also recognize the bravery and dedication they displayed every day during their work life.”

The ceremony happened as we begin National Police Week (May 14-20), and the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office, Macon-Bibb County Fire Department, and former Macon Police Department joins together to honor law enforcement officers who have died in the line of duty.

“We can’t thank the families enough for sacrificing their loved ones to serve us in our community and protect all of us,” said Law Enforcement Foundation Chair Warren Selby. “We always want to say thank you, and we must never forget.”

After the placing of the roses, Bibb County Sheriff David Davis, Colonel Carswell, Fire Chief Shane Edwards, and Community Affairs Executive Director Dr. Henry Ficklin placed a wreath at the monument. Before the ceremony was over, a Georgia State Patrol aviation unit flew over the park.
