At a Proclamation Ceremony last week, Mayor Lester Miller declared January National Mentoring Month. Najiva Timothee operates the Girls Dig Deeper initiative, a mentoring program funded through the Community Foundation of Central Georgia and the Macon Violence Prevention grants. Timothee teaches young ladies in our community about healthy emotional response, taking responsibility for your feelings and actions, and how to be a leader in your community.

The Proclamation notes mentoring provides a network of support for young people and encourages them to work together to make positive change in our community. It also states that through the COVID pandemic, Girls Dig Deeper initiative provided a safe virtual space for young women to come together and share their struggles while receiving support from mentors and one another.
