October is nationally recognized as Breast Cancer Awareness Month. On Tuesday, Mayor Lester Miller presented a proclamation for this during a Commission Meeting. You can read it here.

Breast Cancer deaths have declined by 40% since 1898 due to improvements in treatments and early detection by mammograms. Promoting awareness of early detection of breast cancer as a lifesaving strategy is an important responsibility and a coalition of organizations.

The goal with celebrating this month is to encourage all residents to work together to improve women’s health and increase awareness of the importance of getting mammograms for early detection of breast cancer.
