The Macon-Bibb Fire Department is proud to announce its 2022 Rookie of the Year – Firefighter Robert Husted. Husted joined our award-winning Fire Department on August 30, 2021. He’s a U.S. Air Force Veteran who spent 24 years in Security Forces.

“When I retired from the Air Force, I didn’t want to carry a gun, but I still wanted to help people. The Fire Department was a way to do that,” said Husted. “I take every training course I can, I’m on the Dive team, I’m an EMT, I do technical rescue response, and rope systems. I work hard to help people however I can.”

“Firefighter Husted has proven to go above and beyond on regular occasions. He’s always eager to learn. He’s also been very instrumental in the leadership of his class that he graduated with and has set the bar higher for all future recruits,” said Chief Shane Edwards.

When he’s not working, Husted tells us he loves spending time with his family and finding new ways to help and support his community. Congratulations, Firefighter Husted!
