Local churches purchase Cherry Blossom trees to beautify neighborhoods

You may start seeing more Cherry Blossom trees popping up and blossoming in East Macon, thanks to the Fort Hill Beautification Initiative.

President of the Fort Hill/East Macon Neighborhood Association Victor Hunt has been working hard to get the community involved in keeping the neighborhood clean. While hosting neighborhood cleanups, he’s looking for ways to beautify the area as well. When he heard Keep Macon-Bibb Beautiful (KMBB) was selling Cherry Blossom Trees, he reached out to local churches to see if they wanted to buy some.

“I thought it would be a good idea to beautify the Fort Hill and East Macon area, especially since I don’t see many Cherry Blossom trees around here, so I wanted to change that,” said Hunt. “It’s part of our bigger goal to clean up East Macon.”

Greater Lizzieboro Baptist Church purchased 20 trees from KMBB, planted some, and gave some to mothers at the church on Mother’s Day. Union Baptist Church also purchased ten trees to plant around its church.

Hunt says the goal is to get more churches, organizations, and neighbors to purchase trees and keep their streets and yards looking beautiful.
