At the 2022 Macon-Bibb County Earth Day Festival, the Green Team recognized three community members or organizations doing their part to keep our community beautiful. These recognitions are awarded to those who use their place and skills in the community to implement green initiatives, focus on beautification and preservation, and educate others how to do the same.

The award for Community Advocate was presented to Mayor Lester Miller and partners for the Clean Streets Matter Program. Since it began one year ago, hundreds of people have cleaned more than 123 TONS of trash and debris off our streets and sidewalks.

Also recognized at the event, Joey Fernandez received the Preservation Champion Award for his work at Historic Rose Hill Cemetery, and the Bibb County School District received the Sustainability Initiative Award for earning Energy Star Certification.

You can read more about each of these initiatives by clicking here. There are photos, videos, and other information on the Earth Day Macon-Bibb Facebook page.

If you know of someone who is making a difference, let the Macon-Bibb Green Team know about it! Send an email with your name, contact information, and who you’d like to recognize to EarthDayMaconBibb@gmail.com .
