New cherry trees to be planted for Arbor Day

The Keep Macon-Bibb Beautiful Commission and Parks & Beautification Department will observe Arbor Day in Macon-Bibb County with a tree planting event on February 17. Crews will plant a Helen Taft Cherry Tree, which is a hybrid of the Yoshino Cherry Trees we often see here in Macon, the Taiwan Cherry Trees. They are a stronger version more acclimated to our climate and soil here in Middle Georgia.

Teams will plant the trees at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, February 17, next to the gazebo in Carolyn Crayton Park (150 Willie Smokie Glover Drive). Representatives from Macon-Bibb and KMBB will speak about the trees and the importance of our tree coverage here in Macon. We will livestream the event on our Facebook page.
