As we honor and celebrate our veterans this week, we want to highlight one of our very own veterans who is also responsible overseeing the County’s day-to-day operations, County Manager Dr. Keith Moffett.

Dr. Moffett was born and raised in Macon and graduated from Northeast High School. Upon graduating, he enlisted in the military, serving as an Electronic Technician, working on submarines in the U.S. Navy. After serving for eight years, he returned home and graduated from Macon State University, now Middle Georgia State University. After interning for the Georgia Department of Economic Development, he earned a position as a Regional Project Manager.

Since then, he has worked for Macon-Bibb in various positions, including Director of the E-911 Operations Center, which was named E-911 Center of the Year for Georgia in 2015 under his leadership.

Dr. Moffett was the County Manager for Butts County before returning to Macon-Bibb County in 2018 as the County Manager. He now oversees 21 county departments and has an overall budget of $550 million dollars.

“I love what I do and love the people I work with daily,” said Dr. Moffett. “Each day is different. My experience, including my time with U.S. Navy, has prepared me for this work.”

Dr. Moffett also provides administrative and managerial support expertise to the County Commission, oversees special projects, and helps develop policy.

“Dr. Moffett is a dedicated and loyal employee who puts the needs of his directors and staff above his own,” said Mayor Lester Miller. “We are so grateful to have him on Team Macon-Bibb.”

Thank you for all you do to keep our county running and for your service to our country, Dr. Moffett! We appreciate you.
