On Sunday, November 7, hundreds of people stood along Cherry and Mulberry Streets in Downtown Macon to celebrate and honor veterans during the Blossoms and Bacon Veterans Day Parade. The Cherry Blossom Festival and Macon Bacon came together to host the event.
More than 60 floats participated in Macon-Bibb’s first Veterans Day parade. Floats included military branches, local schools, and community organizations. Once the parade ended, people made their way to Historic Luther Williams Field to continue the celebration.
There, people enjoyed food trucks, local breweries, and live music from Front Porch Radio and Rodney Atkins. The free event drew more than 2,000 people.
Before the main headlining performance, Mayor Lester Miller thanked the crowd and the community for coming together to honor our heroes.
“We oftentimes take for granted when our men and women put their uniforms on, go out there and risk it all to protect us,” said Mayor Miller. “This will not be the last time we hold a celebration like this to honor our veterans. This is the first of many.”
