On Tuesday, September 7, Mayor Lester Miller proclaimed September 2021 as Adult Education and Family Literacy Month to ensure all Macon-Bibb parents and guardians are prepared to help their children learn to read. Commissioner Elaine Lucas presented the proclamation to a representative from Central Georgia Technical College (CGTC).
According to the Proclamation, about 43 million Americans cannot read or write above a third-grade level, and in Georgia, about one million adults have not completed high school or received a High School Equivalency Credential.
Mayor Miller encourages everyone to learn about the valuable resources available to improve literacy.
