On Sunday, August 22, 2021, Macon Head Space and The Southern Center for Choice Theory will host a Mental Health Pop-Up Gym at 10:00 a.m. at Kings Park (3296 Kingston Court). This weekend’s gym will focus on women’s equality ahead of Women’s Equality Day on Thursday, August 26.
“In honor of the constant commitment of women working to gain equality in our country, our state and our city, we are highlighting this work through the mental health pop up gym. Women have worked hard to gain equality in the workforce while still managing to care for their families,” says Andrea Cooke with the Southern Center for Choice Theory. “It’s important to remind the women in our city to take care of themselves, especially their mental health.
Similar to previous gyms, this pop-up includes a Zen Tea Garden, yoga, poetry, and therapists. It’s all part of the Macon Mental Health Matters Initiative, which began in February of 2021 to increase access to mental health care in neighborhoods.
