Our community showed up and showed out for another #CleanStreetsMatter county-wide cleanup on Saturday, July 24, 2021. Together, more than 500 people removed nearly 70,000 pounds of trash from streets in 42 different areas of the county.
“Thank you so much to everyone who participated,” said Executive Director of Keep Macon-Bibb Beautiful (KMBB) Caroline Childs. “When I was driving around the community the morning of the cleanup, it was so good to see so many groups coming together. It’s great to see how people are always looking for ways to get together and make a difference.”
“We can’t do this without all of the people working with us. We are moving in the right direction,” said Mayor Lester Miller. “I can’t continue to thank enough the good men and women in our Solid Waste, Public Works, and Parks & Beautification Departments. They’re really some of our unsung heroes in Macon-Bibb County and I think we need to show them more appreciation.”
Teams covered an extensive amount of the county from to Lizella to East Macon during our second county-wide cleanup. Waste Management and Casteel set out dumpsters for groups to dump trash. Our Parks and Beautification and Public Works Departments also went around the neighborhoods to pick up piles of trash bags groups collected and set by the road for them.
During our first county-wide cleanup, 80 groups picked up more than 109,000 pounds of trash from streets all over our community. That’s in addition to our ongoing efforts of removing illegal dump sites, sweeping streets, picking up litter, and more. Visit the  Clean Streets Matter website  to learn more.
This won’t be our last cleanup! We plan on doing a cleanup once a quarter. Stay tuned for the announcement of the next cleanup date.
