Macon-Bibb County, Keep Macon-Bibb Beautiful (KMBB), and the United Way of Central Georgia have joined forces to coordinate a countywide community cleanup on April 10, 2021. Together they are encouraging all neighborhoods, schools, churches, organizations, and businesses to hold their own neighborhood cleanup that day or join with another group on their cleanup.

“Clean streets matter because Macon-Bibb County matters, and I’m challenging this community to join us in cleaning it up,” says Mayor Lester Miller. “Our crews are doing all they can to get rid of these large piles of trash and debris, and now we need your help to keep it clean.”

To register as an individual or team visit www.keepmaconbibbbeautiful.org and click on the homepage banner. If you do not have an area picked out to clean, KMBB will help you or your group join with another neighborhood.

Individuals and teams will be provided with resources needed such as grabbers, buckets, vests, gloves, trash bags or dumpsters to ensure a successful cleanup. KMBB will partner with Macon-Bibb and Waste Management to collect trash and measure the impact you make your neighborhood.

“We have been so amazed by the support of our community after the launch of Clean Streets Matter,” says Caroline Childs, KMBB Executive Director. “We hope this clean-up day continues to engage residents, provides an opportunity for everyone to give back to their neighborhood, and have pride for where they live.”

“We are excited to support KMBB’s efforts in organizing a community-wide cleanup initiative” said George McCanless, President and CEO of United Way Central Georgia. “Whether it is welcoming visitors coming into our community or attracting new businesses and residents to Bibb County having a clean city shows them how much we all care about where we live.”

This cleanup day is connected to the national Great American Cleanup and the local Clean Streets Matter initiative, which began on January 15, 2021. In the first seven weeks of that effort:

  • KMBBC has supported or helped plan for the future more than 30 neighborhood cleanups;
  • Crews from Macon-Bibb County cleaned 1,715,136 million pounds of debris from 125 illegal dump sites;
  • The Macon Water Authority has swept more than 382,000 pounds of dirt, leaves, pine straw, and litter from more than 37.39 miles of road;
  • More than 900,000 pounds of yard waste has been collected from the regular routes; and
  •  298 SeeClickFix requests have been resolved.
