At the Macon-Bibb County Commission Meeting on February 18, 2020, Commissioner Larry Schlesinger delivered the invocation.

Thane Nye and Molly Prevette from the Academy for Classical Education led the Pledge of Allegiance.

Thane Nye is a junior at the Academy for Classical Education where he is an active member of ACE One Act team, the ACE concert band as a percussionist, and ACE shooting sports. He is also a member of the Thespian Honor Society. This past year, the ACE One Act team placed first and he was awarded Best Overall Actor in area competition. He is the Vice President on the Bibb County 4-H Board of Directors. He has led several activities at club meetings and actively participates in community service with 4-H. At District Project Achievement, Thane will be competing in the Performing Arts – Drama category, while also campaigning to be elected to the Northwest District Sr. Board of Directors.

Molly Prevette is a 7th grader at the Academy for Classical Education where she serves as her 4-H club president. She has been in 4-H since the 4th grade, taking part in all types of activities from monthly BLAST meetings to the Macon Rabies Clinic. Last year, she was awarded the Bibb County Outstanding Cloverleaf 4-H’er Her favorite 4-H activities are summer camp, participating in community service, and District Project Achievement, which she’ll be attending at the end of month competing in the Fruits, Nuts, and Veggies category.

Community Development Block Grant money is a federal funding program run through the Macon-Bibb County Economic and Community Development Department. The money from those grants must be use for certain organizations or initiatives and voted on by Commissioners. The Board approved several items using those funds. • Homefirst Housing Resource Services for Housing counseling services

Commissioners approved a resolution supporting the Georgia Local Government Infrastructure Finance Authority Act. 

The Board approved a one-time safe haven period for the late payment of business license fees. 

Commissioners approved a second amendment to the lease agreement with Due South Investments. 

 The Board approved an organizational chart change to place Macon-Bibb Animal Welfare in the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office.

Commissioners accepted a $5,000 grant from Academy Sports & Outdoors for the the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office’s Night to Unite event.

The Board appropriated additional funds for the purchase of Court Recording Systems, new computers, and a new copier.

Commissioners approve transferring $100,000 in Blight Bond Funds from the completed Wise Avenue to Mattie Hubbard Jones Park in Historic Pleasant Hill.

The Board approved a supplemental appropriation for the Juvenile Court to create a new Deputy Clerk I position.

Commissioners approved a contract with Williams Communication for the replacement of the Knight Road 12 Channel Radio Frequency Site with the Harris Master V Base Station.

 The Board voted to use SPLOST (Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax) funds from the completed Elaine Lucas Senior Center for the next phase of improvements at Theron Ussery Park.

The Board approved extra funds to create a new Assistant District Attorney position in District Attorney David Cooke’s Office.
