In early December, four Macon-Bibb County firefighters – Sergeant Willie Jarrell, Private Christopher Therien, Private Anthony M. Collins, and Private James Howard – were honored by Navicent Health EMS with a Medical Save Award for their actions to save someone’s life.

On October 22, these four firefighters with Engine 12 responded to a call of a person in cardiac arrest and were the first responders on the scene. They began performing CPR and delivering shocks with an automated external defibrillator (AED) until an EMS crew from Navicent Health could arrive. Once the Navicent Health EMS crew arrived, the firefighters continued to assist until the patient was successfully resuscitated.

“EMS is a team effort, and in Macon-Bibb County we have a truly robust lifesaving system of care,” says Navicent Health EMS Director Jason Brady. “Our highly successful survival rates are a testament to collaboration between first responders, like these Engine Company 12 firefighters.”
