King Commission honors Parks, announces first 2019 events

December 26, 2018

On Tuesday, December 18, The Martin Luther King Commission gathered for a wreath-laying ceremony in Rosa Parks Square. The wreath was placed in honor of the Civil Rights icon who, on December 1, 1955, refused to give up her bus seat for a white person. Her legacy, and the legacy the Reverend Doctor Martin Luther King, Jr. lives on in Macon-Bibb County through many events aimed at unity and education.

The Martin Luther King Commission, following the wreath ceremony, held its first meeting to outline upcoming events for Kwanzaa, Dr. King’s Birthday, the annual march, and more. The goal of the King Commission is to raise awareness and encourage togetherness in Macon-Bibb year-round- not JUST on anniversaries and birthdays of important Civil Rights Leaders. You can get involved by attending events, or hosting your own. To see the calendar, and sign up to host, visit the website at www.MaconBibb.us/MLK.
