At the Macon-Bibb County Commission meeting on November 20, Pastor Bobby Brown from Mount Calvary Baptist Church led the invocation.

Two local students who are members of S.M.A.R.T. (South Macon Arts Revitalization Technology) delivered the pledge. Thank you to Shundriel Miles and Tyreke Bowman for leading the room in the pledge.

David Gowan, Director of Risk Management for the Bibb County School System, presented an award to Violet Poe for her work on the Pedestrian Safety Review Board. Commissioners passed a resolution supporting the expansion of the Ocmulgee National Monument boundaries, and intent to demolish blighted structures within boundaries.

The Board of Commissioners approved using SPLOST funds for phase one of road and sidewalk improvements at Middle Georgia State University. Read more about it here.

The Commission authorized an agreement with Cavanaugh MacDonald Consulting to conduct impact study on starting new 501(a) and 457(B) Pension Plans. 

Commissioners also approved an ordinance for a Supplemental Appropriation for the transfer of up to $10,000 from Fund Balance in the FY19 Budget to Professional Services Contract Consultant for the purpose of obtaining an actuarial impact study from Cavanaugh MacDonald Consulting, LLC to determine the impact of establishing a new Macon-Bibb County Employee Pension Plan for newly hired employees.

The board decided to move the January 1 Commission Meetings to Wednesday, January 2.

The Bibb Sheriff’s Office is getting new tasers. Commissioners approved a budget amendment to transfer $70,000 within Bibb Sheriff’s Office line items to make the purchase.

Commissioners approved a budget ordinance related to the FY18 Budget to reflect end of the year numbers.

Commissioners agreed to transfer the necessary funds to account for outstanding purchase orders.

The Commission voted to create a new Employee Relations Advisory Board to help increase job satisfaction.

The Commission accepted a $595,695 Justice Department grant for Bibb County State Court to establish a “Swift, Certain, Fair” program. Read more about it here.

The board approved a $24,065 grant from the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety to go toward the Pedestrian Safety Review Board’s ‘On the Move’ Campaign.

 

Commissioners approved the 17th amendment to the 2018 SPLOST Project Timeline and Budget to account for funds needed at Freedom Park, a Courthouse parking deck, and Local Maintenance Improvement Grant match. Read more about the 2019 LMIG grant application here.

The Commission approved an agreement with The Georgia Department of Transportation for preliminary engineering to replace the Tucker Road overpass bridge at I475, and the bridge over Rocky Creek.

A sinkhole at 4709 Chambers road was repaired using SPLOST funds. The commission voted to approve that repair.

The Board approved a Professional Services Contract with Dunwody/Beeland Architects for services related to new offices at Lake Tobesofkee.

A Public Art Commission will be formed in Macon-Bibb County. You can read the resolution, which was approved by commissioners, here. Also, the board approved a resolution to endorse and support the development of a Cultural Arts Master Plan.

District 2 Commissioner, Larry Schlesinger, was approved to serve on the Visit Macon Board of Directors.

The Commission approved installing 29 street lights along intersections of Eisenhower Parkway. Installation will be paid for by the Eisenhower Business Improvement District.

The Commission approved installing three street lights on Hilltop Drive.
