At its meeting on May 16, the Macon-Bibb County Commission approved updates to its Urban Redevelopment Plan. The changes were made after a public hearing and discussion by Commissioners on the importance of the updates in order to help local organizations and partners work together to improve entire neighborhoods. These updates will allow the county to be more competitive for funding through the Georgia Department of Community Affairs, particularly for housing funding.

Changes made include adding park and recreation enhancements that have been made in the Urban Redevelopment Area, such as Central City Park, Mattie Smith Park, Memorial Park Community Center, Pinnacle Park, and Tattnall Square Park. Also added was a report on blight initiatives and affordable housing. Pictures from 2017 were added to reflect changes in the conditions of properties, and two strategies were added as ways to address needs in the community. This included updating the Ocmulgee Crossing Tax Allocation District and one for affordable housing.
