Tax payment reminder letters being sent

The Macon-Bibb County Tax Commissioner’s Office is mailing reminder letters on March 1, 2017, for unpaid real and personal property accounts for tax year 2016 (January 1 – December 31, 2016). This includes back taxes for prior years, if any. The original bills were sent in September, and payment was due November 15. This reminder letter will include past due amounts. 

“We want to remind people now about the importance of settling these accounts so they can avoid the additional charges and liens,” says Tax Commissioner Wade McCord. 

Additional interest will accrue on unpaid 2016 tax year accounts that are left unpaid after March 15, 2017. A 5% penalty and lien will be filed for unpaid 2016 tax year accounts after March 14, 2017.  If the account remains unpaid, additional 5% penalties will be added for each subsequent 120 days for a maximum penalty of 20% (O.C.G.A. § 48-2-44).
