Heritage Trail, parts of Amerson River Park closed due to river levels

The Ocmulgee Heritage Trail and portions of Amerson River Park (the canoe launch and takeout and primitive trail section) are closed until further notice after gauges for the Ocmulgee River show its levels at 19.5 feet. Flood stage for the River is at 16 feet, and the Parks & Beautification Department closes these areas once the River reaches that level.

The River forecast has it at this level through at least Tuesday and potentially beginning to recede Wednesday. Once the water has cleared from the trails and area – and the Parks & Beautification Department have had a chance to clean up – those areas will be reopened.
