The Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Commission held a press conference on Thursday, January 5 to announce this year’s events to celebrate and honor the memory of the civil rights leader.

This year, events kick off with a Gospel Jubilee – hosted by the Commission and the Macon-Bibb County NAACP – to celebrate Dr. King’s birthday and the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation. The jubilee is Sunday, January 8 at 2:30 p.m. at Greater Antioch Missionary Baptist Church (480 Greter Street). Everyone is invited to enjoy live music, inspirational speakers, and more.

“This is the time of year where we bring churches, local nonprofit organizations, and our governments together to celebrate Dr. King and to find ways which we can continue his work by serving our community,” says Macon-Bibb County Commissioner Elaine Lucas.
