Commemorative marker to honor lynching victims

June 9, 2016

A North Georgia-based group is placing a marker in Macon-Bibb to recognize and remember those who were lynched here. At Tuesday’s meeting, Commissioners granted permission to the Episcopal Diocese of Atlanta’s ‘Beloved Community: Commission for Dismantling Racism’ group to place the marker at The Douglass Theatre.

The marker will bear the names of people lynched in Bibb County. The Tubman African-American Museum will co-sponsor the placing of the marker on October 22, and there will be a short memorial service when that occurs.
