At its February 16 meeting, the Macon-Bibb Commission voted to start the process of re-naming the Riverside Drive bridge over Interstate 75 for military veteran and former City of Macon Macon Mayor, Colonel William Lee Robinson, who passed away in November 2015. Lee Robinson grew up in Macon, served in the Vietnam war and the Georgia Legislature, was a graduate of Mercer University’s School of Law, and was elected Macon Mayor in 1977.

The request for the name change must go through the Georgia Legislature for approval, and the bridge would be named the “WM. LEE ROBINSON MEMORIAL BRIDGE.”
