Community overwhelmingly asks for recycling

Macon-Bibb County is ordering 3,400 more 65-gallon, rolling recycling cans to keep up with the overwhelming demand. They will take 4-6 weeks to deliver, and then the Solid Waste Department will put them together and begin delivering to the people that have requested one. To request a cart, people can log into SeeClickFix or call Customer Service at 751-7400.

“It’s been amazing how quickly people requested the first 1,700 cans, and it makes me proud the community is this excited to begin recycling,” says Solid Waste Director Kevin Barkley. “We’re going to get these new cans in and delivered as quickly as possible.”

Previously, the Department bought 1,700 to get the recycling program started, and it was hoped they would all be requested and delivered by May so more could be ordered. Between November 17 and January 8, more than 2,000 were asked for, and more requests continue to be made.
