On Wednesday, January 13, at 11:00 a.m., Macon-Bibb County and partners will hold a groundbreaking ceremony to mark the start of Rosa Jackson Community Center (1211 Maynard Street) improvements.

The Center will be getting a new gymnasium, an exercise/workout room, a splash pad, a new playground, and extensive renovations to the existing facility, including a new computer room, new meeting spaces, and more. This major project is expected to cost $3.45 million and is being paid for with funds from the voter-approved Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax.

“We want to improve recreation and our Centers based on the needs of our community,” says Recreation Director Reggie Moore. “Across Macon-Bibb County, the SPLOST is funding major improvements to recreation, and we have the people of this community to thank. They made the SPLOST happen, and now they’re helping design the projects.”

“With the SPLOST, we are improving the quality of life for people in all areas of our community, especially the neighborhood around the Rosa Jackson Community Center,” says Macon-Bibb County Mayor Robert Reichert. “I know they will truly enjoy the new gymnasium and rooms, as well as the programs that will be here.”

“This will be a great asset to the families in Fort Hill and East Macon, and the planned splash pad should be the envy of the entire county,” says District 2 Commissioner Larry Schlesinger. “Thanks to the people of the county approving the SPLOST, we can give this neighborhood – and many others – what it deserves and needs.”
