Staff Spotlight: Jeanetta Watson

Each election takes a lot of work behind the scenes that most of us hardly ever see. The Macon-Bibb County Board of Elections works throughout the year to make sure everything is accurately reported. Elections Supervisor Jeanetta Watson is a huge part of that, and was recently recognized for her efforts.

During the 2021 Conference for Georgia Association of Voter Registration and Elections Officials (GAVREO), Watson received the Phoenix Award after being nominated by her peers. The theme for the conference was “Rise Up,” and was dedicated to all who participated and helped ensure a smooth 2020 Election.

“Georgia had the largest-ever single rollout of voting equipment to 159 counties, we had record breaking numbers of absentee ballots, and we faced a worldwide pandemic that we’ve never experienced before ,” said Watson.

Watson has been with the Board of Elections since 2007 and worked her way up to become the first African American Elections Supervisor for Macon-Bibb County.

“This recognition was truly very special and means a lot to be one of the very first recipients of the GAVREO Phoenix award,” said Watson. “To be acknowledged during a time when morale is at an all-time low and while still being faced with the pessimistic views of 2020, was more than refreshing. The Macon-Bibb County Board of Elections is proud of what we have accomplished.”

Congratulations, Jeanetta Watson! Thank you for all you do.
