On Tuesday, September 14, the Commission unanimously passed a resolution appropriating $1.97 million in American Rescue Plan (ARP) funds to help fight crime.

The County entered into an agreement with ShotSpotter, a gunshot detection system. The company will place sensors in different spots around the County that will help pinpoint gunfire location and alert the Sheriff’s Office. With this technology, they can respond faster and can get to a specific location better to collect evidence.  

“We look forward to adding this important tool to our resource capabilities. The ShotSpotter system will help us identify exact locations of gunfire so that our deputies can respond more effectively and quickly to where the potential danger may exist,” said Sheriff David Davis. “This can us identify and apprehend those who may engage in violent and disruptive behavior.”

“This is something that is going to help our Sheriff’s Office, and most importantly help our community,” said Mayor Lester Miller. “We need all the resources we can get to keep our communities safe and I know this is going to make a difference.” 

The Sheriff’s Office is working to get the sensors placed in areas with the highest number of ‘shots fired’ calls.
