Mayor Miller proclaims August as Immunization Awareness Month, Breastfeeding Month

Mayor Lester Miller, alongside Atrium Health Navicent, recognized and proclaimed August as Immunization Month in Macon-Bibb County.

This month is meant to highlight the importance of vaccinations for people of all ages. It’s important for people to know how vaccines prevent serious and sometimes deadly diseases. Atrium Health Navicent strongly supports the continued provision of health care and immunizations for everyone, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. Mayor Miller also proclaimed August as Breastfeeding Month in Macon-Bibb County.

According to the United States Breastfeeding Committee (USBC), breast milk is the preferred and most appropriate source of nutrition for infant and is a proven primary prevention strategy, protecting both infants and mothers from chronic and acute diseases. Breastfeeding also builds a strong emotional connection between the mother and infant which lasts a lifetime. Learn more about breastfeeding here.
